Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At 4,000 rpm, the 5.4L BOSS V8 theoretically draws approximately 10,800 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency and expels around 32,400 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

Actual airflow varies with RPM, engine load, volumetric efficiency, intake restriction, camshaft specification and engine condition. These figures are theoretical values intended to illustrate the substantial volume of gas that must pass through the exhaust system at higher engine speeds.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

  • Apply penetrating lubricant to manifold studs, bolts and exhaust fasteners before removal.
  • Remove all traces of the old manifold gaskets and inspect the cylinder-head sealing surfaces.
  • Fit new PHFG4008 exhaust manifold/header gaskets.
  • Trial-fit both header assemblies and check all clearances before fully tightening the mounting hardware.
  • Protect painted or ceramic-coated surfaces during trial fitting and installation.
  • Check clearance around the starter motor, steering, engine mounts, transmission, wiring and surrounding components.
  • Ensure oxygen sensors, catalytic converters and other required emissions-control equipment are correctly retained.
  • Keep oxygen sensor wiring and other wiring clear of the headers and other hot exhaust components.
  • Check all exhaust connections for leaks after installation.
  • Inspect header mounting hardware after the initial heat cycles.

Warranty & Compliance

Pacemaker PH4018 headers are covered against manufacturing defects subject to Pacemaker's current warranty terms and conditions.

The vehicle's catalytic converters, oxygen sensors and other emissions-control equipment must remain correctly installed and operational where required. Check applicable state or territory requirements covering exhaust modifications, emissions, vehicle noise and roadworthiness.
