Pacemaker PH4010 exhaust headers (extractors) are designed for selected Ford Mustang 1964-1969 models fitted with 260, 289 or 302 Windsor small-block V8 engines.

Featuring mandrel-bent 38mm primary pipes with 76mm flanged outlets, PH4010 headers replace the restrictive factory exhaust manifolds and are designed to improve exhaust gas flow and scavenging for better torque, throttle response and engine performance.

PH4010 is suitable for a range of classic Mustang street, restoration and performance applications, with important steering and clutch fitment requirements outlined below.

Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At 4,000 rpm, a 289ci (4.7L) Windsor V8 theoretically draws in approximately 9,400 litres of intake air per minute and can expel around 28,200 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

At the same engine speed, a 302ci (4.95L) Windsor V8 theoretically draws in approximately 9,900 litres of intake air per minute and can expel around 29,700 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

• Apply penetrating lubricant to exhaust manifold fasteners and exhaust connections before removal
• Remove all traces of the original manifold gasket and inspect the cylinder-head sealing surfaces
• Fit new DSF003 exhaust manifold/header gaskets
• Trial-fit both headers before fully tightening the mounting hardware
• Check steering, clutch linkage, engine mounts, starter motor and transmission clearance carefully
• Ram-assist power steering applications require the appropriate PBR4010 steering ram kit
• Protect the Pacemaker Blue or optional ceramic-coated surfaces during installation
• Check all exhaust connections for leaks after installation
• Inspect and re-tighten the header mounting hardware after the initial heat cycles
