Construction

Pacemaker PH5000A uses performance header pipework with Pacemaker's Tri-Y configuration. The system uses 41mm primary pipes feeding into 48mm secondary pipes before transitioning to the 63mm outlet.

The standard Pacemaker finish uses the distinctive Pacemaker Blue heat-resistant coating, designed to withstand temperatures up to approximately 800°C.

VN-VS Automatic: PH5000A is Pacemaker's standard application for VN, VP, VR and VS Commodore 5.0L EFI V8 models with automatic transmission from 1988-1997.

Variable-Ratio Power Steering: PH5000A will NOT fit vehicles equipped with variable-ratio power steering. Pacemaker lists a separate PH5000V application for appropriate VN-VS Calais, Caprice and Statesman vehicles using variable-ratio steering.

Starter Motor: PH5000A is compatible with both Bosch starter motor configurations listed by Pacemaker.

Six-Speed Manual: PH5000A is not the normal six-speed manual application. Pacemaker specifies PH5002 for vehicles fitted with a six-speed manual transmission.

VS Series III Ute – Getrag 5-Speed: Pacemaker specifically lists PH5000A for the VS Series III Ute fitted with the Getrag 5-speed manual transmission.

VS Series III Ute Automatic: PH5000A can suit the automatic VS Series III Ute, but will NOT fit vehicles fitted with the uncommon full-circle bellhousing. Confirm the bellhousing configuration before ordering.

Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At 4,000 rpm, the 5.0L Holden V8 theoretically draws approximately 10,000 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency and expels around 30,000 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

Before installation, confirm the vehicle's transmission and power-steering configuration. PH5000A is not suitable for vehicles with variable-ratio power steering.

Lubricate manifold fasteners with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant before removal. Protect the header finish during trial fitting and avoid tightening individual components fully until the complete system is correctly positioned.

Because VN-VS Commodores are now older vehicles, inspect engine mounts, transmission mounts, steering components and any previous exhaust modifications before installation.
