Pacemaker PH5014 headers (extractors) suit classic Holden HQ, HJ, HX and HZ models fitted with a 173, 186 or 202 Holden Red Motor and Powerglide automatic transmission.

Featuring Pacemaker's proven Tri-Y interference design, these headers are designed to improve exhaust scavenging, increase usable low and mid-range torque and provide sharper throttle response compared with the restrictive factory exhaust manifold.

Manufactured in Australia using mandrel-bent mild steel pipework and precision-cut flanges, PH5014 headers are an excellent performance upgrade for restored Holdens, everyday cruisers and modified Red Motor combinations. They are also compatible with XU-1 style triple carburettor setups.

Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At approximately 4,000 rpm, a Holden 202 Red Motor draws approximately 3,360 litres of intake air per minute and expels approximately 10,080 litres of exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

At approximately 4,000 rpm, a Holden 186 Red Motor draws approximately 3,094 litres of intake air per minute and expels approximately 9,282 litres of exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

At approximately 4,000 rpm, a Holden 173 Red Motor draws approximately 2,878 litres of intake air per minute and expels approximately 8,634 litres of exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

A well-designed Tri-Y header and correctly sized exhaust system helps move this exhaust volume efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, throttle response and usable torque.

Installation Tips

A great way to help protect the headers and surrounding paintwork during installation is to wrap the headers in several layers of cling wrap. Trim around the flange area, carefully position the headers in the engine bay and start several mounting bolts. Once correctly positioned, cut and remove the remaining wrap before final tightening.

Can the headers be ceramic coated?

Do I need a new exhaust gasket?
We recommend fitting a new DSF002 gasket when installing the headers. The gasket is available separately.
