HZJ75R: The 4.2L 1HZ-powered HZJ75R was produced from approximately 1990 to 1999 in cab-chassis, utility and Troop Carrier configurations.

HZJ78R: The HZJ78R replaced the HZJ75 Troop Carrier from 1999 and continued with the naturally aspirated 1HZ diesel into 2007.

HZJ79R: The HZJ79R cab-chassis was introduced from 1999 and was also available with the naturally aspirated 4.2L 1HZ diesel.

Turbocharged Vehicles: Many older 1HZ LandCruisers have subsequently been fitted with aftermarket turbocharger systems. A turbo conversion changes the exhaust manifold and engine-pipe arrangement, so A265 should not be ordered for a turbocharged vehicle without first checking the existing installation.

Because HZJ75, HZJ78 and HZJ79 LandCruisers are commonly modified for touring, commercial and off-road use, check the engine and existing exhaust configuration before ordering.

Actual diesel airflow and exhaust-gas volume vary substantially with engine speed, load, volumetric efficiency, fuelling and engine condition, so this calculation is provided only as an illustration of the volume of gas an exhaust system may need to manage.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

Before installation, confirm that the vehicle is fitted with the naturally aspirated 4.2L 1HZ diesel engine and has not been converted to an aftermarket turbocharger configuration.

Professional installation is recommended. Inspect the condition of the manifold studs, engine mounts, engine pipe and existing exhaust system before fitting the headers.

Lubricate threaded fasteners with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant before removal to assist with easier removal and installation.

Diesel exhaust manifold fasteners can be exposed to considerable heat over many years of service. Take care when removing old studs and fasteners to avoid damage to the cylinder head.
