Advance A342 headers (extractors) are listed for selected first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero NA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF and NG 4WD models fitted with the 2.6L 4G54 Astron four-cylinder petrol engine.
A342 features a heavy-duty press-bent interference design suited to standard and mildly modified engines, providing a performance-oriented replacement for the original exhaust manifold to improve exhaust flow, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
Gasket included.

Advance A342 headers feature heavy-duty press-bent construction and an interference design intended for durable street and 4WD use.
Press-bent headers use a traditional manufacturing method where the pipe reduces slightly through the bends. This style of construction has been widely used on Australian performance and 4WD exhaust systems for many years.
Please contact Best Mufflers for current availability and advice regarding compatible exhaust components for your Mitsubishi Pajero.
Australian Application Note: The first Australian-market Pajero arrived in January 1983. The NA was offered with the 2.6L 4G54 Astron petrol engine, and this engine continued through subsequent first-generation Pajero series.
The series progression was approximately NA 1983-1984, NB 1984-1985, NC 1985-1986, ND 1986-1987, NE 1987-1988, NF 1988-1989 and NG 1989-1991.
Important: The original A342 product information lists a 2.0L Pajero application and an incorrect 1981-1983 range. These details do not match Australian-market Pajero specifications. This listing is therefore restricted to the confirmed 2.6L 4G54 Astron engine family. Please confirm A342 header fitment to your particular vehicle before ordering.
A342 is listed for the 2.6L 4G54 Astron-powered Mitsubishi Pajero 4WD application.
The 4G54 remained available through several first-generation Pajero updates. Transmission and body configurations changed during production, including the introduction of automatic transmission availability from the ND series.
Because these vehicles are now several decades old, confirm the engine, transmission, steering, chassis and existing exhaust configuration before ordering. Engine conversions and previous exhaust modifications are common.
Other installation hardware should not be assumed to be included unless supplied with the current product.
Please contact Best Mufflers if you require advice on compatible exhaust components or installation parts for your Mitsubishi Pajero.
The 2.6L 4G54 Astron four-cylinder engine theoretically draws approximately 5,200 litres of intake air per minute at 4,000 rpm at 100% volumetric efficiency.
Once combustion has taken place, the hot exhaust gases occupy substantially more volume as they travel through the exhaust system. Using an illustrative exhaust temperature of approximately 600°C, this represents around 15,600 litres of exhaust gas per minute.
A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
Professional installation is recommended. Trial-fit the headers and check clearance around the chassis, steering, front drivetrain, transmission and suspension before completing the exhaust connection.
Lubricate threaded fasteners with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant before removal to assist with easier removal and installation. After installation and several heat cycles, inspect the system for exhaust leaks and recheck accessible fasteners where appropriate.
Installation should comply with applicable Australian state or territory requirements relating to exhaust noise, emissions equipment where applicable, and vehicle modifications.
Is this product currently available?
Availability and lead times can vary. Please check availability and current lead time before ordering.
What engine does Advance A342 suit in the Mitsubishi Pajero?
This application is for the 2.6L 4G54 Astron SOHC 8-valve petrol engine used in the first-generation Pajero.
Does A342 suit a 2.0L Australian Pajero?
The old Advance listing mentions a 2.0L engine, however Australian-market NA-NG Pajero application information does not support a 2.0L Astron petrol application. This listing is therefore for the 2.6L 4G54 only.
What years did the 2.6L Pajero cover?
The Australian first-generation Pajero was introduced in 1983, with the 2.6L 4G54 continuing through the NA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF and NG series. The NG continued into 1991.
Does A342 suit automatic Pajero models?
Automatic transmission became available on selected 2.6L Pajero models from the ND series. Because the old A342 information does not specifically confirm automatic-transmission clearance, please contact us to confirm fitment before ordering for an automatic vehicle.
Are these headers mandrel bent?
No. The supplied Advance A342 specification describes these headers as press bent.
Is a gasket included?
Yes. The supplied A342 Pajero product information specifies that a gasket is included.
Can I pick up from the store?
Yes. Pick up is available but must be pre-arranged before collection.
How much is freight?
Freight varies depending on your delivery location and where stock is available. Please contact us for freight charges before ordering. Where possible, we can arrange dispatch from the nearest available product location to help reduce freight costs and delivery times.
Do you ship to the USA?
Yes. Best Mufflers regularly ships exhaust systems and exhaust parts to customers throughout the United States.
Please note that import duties, tariffs, taxes, and customs clearance fees are not included in the product or shipping price.
