Advance A440 headers (extractors) are designed for the Holden Gemini TX, TC, TD, TE, TF and TG 1975-1985 fitted with the 1.6L G161Z SOHC petrol engine, with application also listed for the 1.8L G180Z SOHC petrol engine commonly used in Gemini engine conversions.
These Australian-made headers feature an interference design intended for standard or mildly modified street engines, helping improve exhaust flow, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
IMPORTANT: The Australian Holden Gemini was factory fitted with the 1.6L G161Z petrol engine. The 1.8L G180Z petrol application relates to vehicles fitted with this engine or engine conversion.
Gaskets are included.
Please check availability and current lead time before ordering.
Advance A440 headers are Australian Made and feature heavy-duty, press-bent construction.
The interference header design is intended for street applications where improved exhaust flow and useful low- and mid-range torque are important.
Please contact Best Mufflers for advice on replacement exhaust components, gaskets and installation parts to suit your Holden Gemini.
The Australian Holden Gemini was introduced in 1975 with the 1584cc G161Z SOHC petrol engine, which remained the standard petrol engine throughout the Australian rear-wheel-drive Gemini range. The TG was introduced in March 1983 and discontinued in April 1985.
1.8L ENGINE NOTE: The factory 1.8L engine offered in Australian Holden Geminis was the 4FB1 diesel. A440 should not be assumed to suit the 1.8L diesel. The 1.8L petrol application refers to the G180Z petrol engine.
1.6L G161Z: This is the standard Australian Holden Gemini petrol engine and the primary A440 application.
1.8L G180Z: A440 is also listed for the 1.8L petrol application. In Australia, the G180Z is commonly encountered as an engine conversion rather than an original factory Holden Gemini petrol engine.
Does not refer to the factory 1.8L 4FB1 diesel engine.
Early TX Geminis used more than one factory exhaust manifold configuration during production. Vehicles of this age may also have had engine, cylinder head or exhaust modifications, so the existing configuration should be checked before ordering.
Bolts and other installation hardware should not be assumed to be included unless confirmed with the current product before ordering.
Before installation, inspect the existing engine pipe, exhaust system, engine mounts, manifold studs, gaskets and associated hardware.
Contact Best Mufflers if you require advice on replacement exhaust components to complete the installation.
At 4,000 rpm, the 1.6L G161Z four-cylinder engine theoretically draws approximately 3,200 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency.
Using an illustrative hot exhaust volume at approximately 600°C, this represents around 9,600 litres of exhaust gas per minute.
For a 1.8L G180Z, the equivalent theoretical intake volume at 4,000 rpm is approximately 3,600 litres per minute, representing around 10,800 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute using the same illustrative calculation.
A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
Before installation, confirm whether the vehicle is fitted with the original 1.6L G161Z or a 1.8L G180Z petrol engine conversion.
Professional installation is recommended, particularly on vehicles that have undergone engine or exhaust modifications.
Lubricate threaded fasteners with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant before removal to assist with easier removal and installation.
Inspect the manifold studs and cylinder-head threads carefully, particularly on older engines where corrosion or previous repairs may be present.
After installation and several heat cycles, inspect the exhaust system for leaks and recheck accessible fasteners where appropriate.
Installation must comply with applicable Australian state or territory requirements relating to exhaust noise and vehicle modifications.
For vehicles fitted with an engine conversion, the engine and exhaust installation must also comply with the applicable vehicle modification and registration requirements.
What Holden Gemini models does Advance A440 fit?
A440 is designed for the Holden Gemini TX, TC, TD, TE, TF and TG 1975-1985 with compatible petrol engines.
Does A440 fit the original 1.6L Holden Gemini engine?
Yes. The primary application is the 1.6L G161Z SOHC petrol engine fitted to Australian Holden Geminis.
Does A440 fit a 1.8L G180Z Gemini conversion?
The Advance A440 application information includes a 1.8L petrol application. The relevant Isuzu petrol engine is the G180Z, commonly fitted to Australian Geminis as an engine conversion.
Did Australian Holden Geminis come factory fitted with a 1.8L G180Z petrol engine?
No. Australian Holden Geminis used the 1.6L G161Z as the standard petrol engine. The factory 1.8L option was the 4FB1 diesel. The G180Z petrol engine is commonly found in modified or converted Geminis.
Does A440 fit the 1.8L Gemini diesel?
No. The factory 1.8L 4FB1 diesel is a different engine and should not be confused with the 1.8L G180Z petrol application.
Are gaskets included?
Yes. The supplied Advance A440 information states that gaskets are included.
Are bolts included?
The supplied A440 information confirms gaskets but does not state that bolts are included. Bolts should not be assumed to be supplied.
Can I pick up from the store?
Yes. Pick up is available but must be pre-arranged before collection.
