Advance A692 headers (extractors) are designed for Ford Falcon EA, EB, ED, EF, EL and AU models from 1988-2002 fitted with the 3.9L or 4.0L SOHC inline six-cylinder petrol engine, including applicable XR6 models.
A692 features an interference header design suited to standard and mildly modified street engines. The design provides a performance-oriented replacement for the original exhaust manifold, helping improve exhaust flow, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Advance A692 headers feature heavy-duty press-bent construction and an interference design developed for street performance applications.
The design is intended to provide strong usable torque through the normal road-going engine speed range while reducing the restriction of the original exhaust manifold.
Please contact Best Mufflers for advice on compatible catalytic converters, exhaust systems and installation components for your Falcon 3.9L or 4.0L six-cylinder.
The A692 application covers the Australian Ford overhead-cam six-cylinder Falcon family from the EA introduced in 1988 through to the final AU-series Falcon in 2002.
Engine Note: Early EA and EB models were available with the 3.9L SOHC six-cylinder. The engine family subsequently developed into the 4.0L SOHC six used through ED, EF, EL and AU, including performance versions used in applicable XR6 models.
A692 is designed for the Ford 3.9L and 4.0L SOHC overhead-cam six-cylinder engine family. It is not an application for the earlier XF-style pushrod Crossflow six-cylinder engine or the later BA-onwards DOHC Barra engine.
Current Advance application information also lists the corresponding XG and XH Longreach 4.0L commercial models. If ordering for an XG or XH ute or van, please provide the vehicle details so fitment can be confirmed.
Because many EA-AU Falcons have now been modified, confirm the engine, transmission and existing exhaust configuration before ordering.
A suitable high-flow catalytic converter and performance exhaust system can further reduce downstream exhaust restriction. Contact Best Mufflers for advice on the correct exhaust combination for your Falcon and intended use.
At 4,000 rpm, the 3.9L Ford six-cylinder theoretically draws approximately 7,800 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency. Using an illustrative hot exhaust volume at approximately 600°C, this represents around 23,400 litres of exhaust gas per minute.
At the same engine speed, the 4.0L Ford six-cylinder theoretically draws approximately 8,000 litres of intake air per minute, representing around 24,000 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute using the same illustrative calculation.
A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
Professional installation is recommended. Check header clearance around the steering, transmission, starter motor, engine mounts and surrounding components before completing installation.
Lubricate threaded fasteners with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant before removal to assist with easier removal and installation. After installation and several heat cycles, inspect the system for exhaust leaks and recheck accessible fasteners where appropriate.
Installation should retain all emissions-control equipment required for the particular vehicle and comply with applicable Australian state or territory requirements relating to exhaust noise, emissions and vehicle modifications.
