Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter
The Holden 3.8L Ecotec V6 needs to move a substantial volume of air and exhaust gas as engine speed increases.
- At 4,000 rpm, the 3.8L Ecotec V6 moves approximately 6,100 litres of intake air per minute and can expel around 18,300 litres of exhaust gas per minute (@ approximately 600°C).
- At 5,000 rpm, airflow increases to approximately 7,600 litres of intake air per minute and around 22,800 litres of exhaust gas per minute (@ approximately 600°C).
The restrictive factory exhaust manifolds can make it more difficult for the engine to efficiently clear this exhaust gas. Properly designed headers provide smoother individual exhaust runners and improved gas flow, helping the engine breathe more efficiently and improving usable torque and throttle response.
