Pacemaker PH4038 Competition headers (extractors) are designed for Ford Falcon XR, XT, XW and XY models fitted with a 302 Windsor V8 using spread-port / wider dual-bolt-pattern cylinder heads. PH4038 also fit XA, XB, XC, XD, XE and XF Falcon 302 Windsor engine conversions.

PH4038 features Pacemaker's Competition TRI-Y design with 44mm (1¾") primary pipes, 51mm (2") secondary pipes and 76mm (3") outlets. The larger pipework is designed for high-performance 302 Windsor combinations where increased exhaust gas flow is required.

IMPORTANT – PH4038 requires spread-port / wider dual-bolt-pattern cylinder heads. It will not fit standard Windsor cylinder heads or 351 Windsor engines.

Construction

Pacemaker PH4038 uses a performance-oriented tubular TRI-Y configuration developed specifically for 302 Windsor engines fitted with the required spread-port / wider dual-bolt-pattern cylinder heads.

The standard headers are supplied in Pacemaker's protective finish. Ceramic coating is also available separately for customers wanting additional heat management and surface protection.

Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At 4,000 rpm, a 302ci / 5.0L Windsor V8 theoretically draws approximately 10,000 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency and expels around 30,000 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

Actual airflow varies considerably with RPM, engine load, volumetric efficiency, camshaft specification, cylinder-head flow and engine configuration. A modified or stroked Windsor using high-flow aftermarket cylinder heads may move substantially more air than a standard 302.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

• Verify the cylinder-head exhaust bolt pattern before ordering or beginning installation.
• Do not assume PH4038 will fit simply because the engine is a 302 Windsor – the required spread-port / wider dual-bolt-pattern cylinder heads are essential.
• Confirm the transmission type before installation – C6 automatic transmissions are not compatible.
• Apply penetrating lubricant to existing exhaust fasteners before removal.
• Use exhaust manifold/header gaskets suitable for the particular aftermarket cylinder heads fitted.
• Trial-fit both header assemblies and check all clearances before fully tightening the mounting hardware.
