CAT4000-LR high-flow catalytic converters are manufactured exclusively by Best Mufflers for Ford Falcon EB, ED, EF, EL and XH models fitted with the 5.0L EFI 302 Windsor V8 and running Pacemaker PH4000 headers. They also suit corresponding Ford Fairlane NC, NF and NL 5.0L EFI V8 PH4000 applications.

Supplied as a matched left- and right-hand pair, these converters feature 100 CPI metallic catalyst substrates, stainless steel pipework, TIG-welded construction and 63mm (2.50") connections. They are designed to provide high exhaust-flow capacity with reduced restriction as part of the PH4000 performance exhaust installation.

A key feature is the pipe-over outlet design. The connecting exhaust pipe slips over the catalytic converter outlet rather than inserting inside it, helping maintain the internal flow area and reduce unnecessary restriction at the connection.

IMPORTANT – CAT4000-LR is designed specifically as a direct fit between Pacemaker Headers PH4000 and the factory Y-pipe. They is not a direct replacement for the original factory catalytic converters when using standard exhaust manifolds.

Why High-Flow Catalytic Converters Matter

At 4,000 rpm, the 5.0L 302 Windsor V8 theoretically draws approximately 10,000 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency and expels around 30,000 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

Actual airflow varies with RPM, engine load, volumetric efficiency, intake restriction, camshaft specification and engine condition. These figures are theoretical values intended to illustrate the substantial volume of gas that must pass through the exhaust system at higher engine speeds.

Because catalytic converters form part of this exhaust path, excessive restriction through the catalyst can limit overall exhaust flow. The combination of a 100 CPI metallic substrate, 63mm (2.50") pipework and pipe-over outlet connection is designed to provide a high-flow exhaust path while retaining catalytic converters within the exhaust system.

Important Catalytic Converter Information

Catalytic converter failure can be caused by engine misfires, excessive fuel delivery, oil consumption, coolant entering the combustion chamber, ignition faults or other engine-management problems.
