Pacemaker PH5381 Competition headers (extractors) are designed for Holden Commodore VE and VF V8 models from 2006-2017 and applicable WM and WN Statesman/Caprice models fitted with selected 6.0L and 6.2L V8 engines.

PH5381 uses Pacemaker's performance-oriented 4-into-1 tuned-length competition design with large 44mm (1¾") primary pipes and 76mm (3") collector outlets. This configuration is designed to improve exhaust flow, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

The PH5381 application covers a broad range of Holden and HSV V8 engines including selected 6.0L Gen IV, LS2 and 6.2L LS3 applications. It is not suitable for the supercharged HSV LSA engine.

IMPORTANT – PH5381 requires aftermarket catalytic converters. It does not connect directly to the original factory catalytic converters.

Construction

Pacemaker PH5381 uses a 4-into-1 competition header configuration with large 44mm (1¾") primary pipes feeding directly into 76mm (3") collector outlets.

The standard Pacemaker finish uses the distinctive Pacemaker Blue heat-resistant coating, designed to withstand temperatures up to approximately 800°C.

Additional Options

Ceramic Coating: PHC40 ceramic coating may be available for improved heat management and corrosion resistance. Please contact Best Mufflers for current availability.

DSF138: Replacement cylinder-head exhaust gaskets are available separately.

Pacemaker High-Flow Catalytic Converters: PH5381 requires aftermarket catalytic converters. Pacemaker lists CAT5380-100L/R for a 2½" exhaust connection and CAT5387-100L/R for a 3" exhaust connection.

Engine Applications

VE Commodore: Australian VE Commodore V8 models used several 6.0L Gen IV engines during production, including L98, L76 and L77 depending on model, transmission and production date.

VF Commodore: Early VF V8 models continued with the 6.0L L77. The VF Series II introduced the 6.2L LS3 into Holden Commodore V8 models.

HSV: Applicable naturally aspirated HSV VE/VF derivatives used engines including the 6.0L LS2 and 6.2L LS3. The later supercharged 6.2L LSA is excluded from PH5381.

The original listing description of “LS1 / LS2 / LS3” is not correct for this application. PH5381 is not an LS1 header application.

Fitment Notes

Aftermarket Catalytic Converters Required: PH5381 is designed to be used with aftermarket catalytic converters rather than the original factory catalytic converters.

2½" Catalytic Converters: Pacemaker lists CAT5380-100L/R for applications using a 2½" exhaust connection.

3" Catalytic Converters: Pacemaker lists CAT5387-100L/R for applications using a 3" exhaust connection.

Oxygen Sensor Extension: One PEX5367Z oxygen sensor wiring loom extension is required and Pacemaker currently specifies that this extension is included with the PH5381 kit.

LSA: PH5381 does not fit HSV vehicles equipped with the supercharged LSA engine. Use the appropriate Pacemaker PH5385 application.

Because many VE and VF V8 vehicles have already been modified, check existing headers, catalytic converters, exhaust diameter, engine mounts and other aftermarket components before installation.

Why Good Headers & Exhaust Systems Matter

At 4,000 rpm, a 6.0L V8 theoretically draws approximately 12,000 litres of intake air per minute at 100% volumetric efficiency and expels around 36,000 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

At the same engine speed, a 6.2L V8 theoretically draws approximately 12,400 litres of intake air per minute and expels around 37,200 litres of hot exhaust gas per minute at approximately 600°C.

A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.

Installation Tips

Before installation, confirm the exact vehicle model, engine and existing exhaust configuration.

PH5381 requires aftermarket catalytic converters, so plan the complete header, catalytic converter and exhaust configuration before commencing installation.

Protect the header finish during trial fitting and ensure oxygen-sensor wiring is routed safely away from the headers and other high-temperature components.
