The 1.5L engine theoretically draws approximately 3,000 litres of intake air per minute at 4,000 rpm at 100% volumetric efficiency. Once combustion has taken place, the hot exhaust gases occupy substantially more volume as they travel through the exhaust system.
Using an illustrative exhaust temperature of approximately 600°C, this represents around 9,000 litres of exhaust gas per minute. A well-designed header and exhaust system helps manage this high gas flow efficiently, reducing restriction and improving exhaust scavenging, torque, throttle response and engine performance.
Professional installation is recommended because catalytic converter relocation is required and an O2 sensor boss/nut BOSS02 is required for this application.
Check exhaust alignment, mounting points, sensor positioning and surrounding clearances during installation. After several heat cycles, inspect the system for exhaust leaks and recheck accessible fasteners where appropriate.
Installation and use must comply with applicable Australian state or territory regulations, including requirements relating to catalytic converters, emissions equipment, exhaust noise and vehicle modifications. The catalytic converter must remain correctly installed and operational where required.
