Mitsubishi Magna
3.5ltr V6 Engine Pipe Repair.

If your exhaust rattles on acceleration ...
Before you waste money replacing the
catalytic converter, as most will tell
you the most likely cause is a
cracked or broken divider plate in
the the engine pipe collector

Firslty remove covers, be sure
to lubricate all nuts & bolts with
WD40 or similar to ensure easier
removal. Once bolts are removed
carefully remove covers being care
not to disturb heat material inside
covers

2 Look closely at the collector
[looking from the bottom]
3 Notice welds and mark around outside
i work from the top side [closest to engine]
4 Cut around welds with small disk cutter
5 Almost ready to remove
5 The more access the easier
it is to remove dividers

Once cut correctly the top section
of the divider can be removed
divider is in two halfs, once the top half
is out you can access the bottom divider
some cases the diver can come loose
completly and work its way down
the pipe into the catalytic converter

You can see the bottom divider is still
in place which still requires removal,
in this case the bottom diver is still firmly
in place and requires a bit of work to remove.

Both dividers removed
Once removed and cleaned up
make a small patch of stainless steel
i have used a piece of 409 grade 2.2mm thick
The original engine pipe is stainless steel

Patch is shaped and tig welded into place
we tig weld to ensure the collector stays smooth
on the inside for maximum gas flow

Refit Covers and your done.
Refitting covers is highly recommended
as stops heat transfer into the firewall
and front floor pan

The original engine pipe is very
good quality and with this repair
will last for years. Complete job
takes around two hours but well worth it.

Note: Regarding the Factory Catalytic Converter
The original factory catalytic converter
is also very good quality & flows very
well. The larger the body of the catalytic
converter the more surface area for
the gas to pass through. If you do change
the factory cat make sure you keep the original
as they are worth around $80.00 to $100.00
as scrap metal, a hiflow cat may be worth $5.00
