Making extractors on a LH or LX Torana fitted with small block chev engines is very difficult, finding room for a decent set of pipes is extremely limited, specifically the right hand side [drivers side] This engine is also running straight plug heads so ample clearance for spark plugs and leads needs to be considered while building these pipes. Making a high quality set of headers on the car is impossible, so these headers are going to be made on a jig. The headers are going to be "stepped" design. On this build the first section of header pipe is going to be 1 3/4" [each one water filled for exact length] then the pipes will step up to 1 7/8". The pipes will also be made in the correct firing order to help with high end horse power. Correct firing order helps because as each pulse of gas enters the collector the next cylinder that fires will next be previous pipe that fired so we get a swirling action which helps extracting the exhaust gases from the engine [thats why we call them extractors] |
